Quick Facts: Own It Now Homes

  • Unlike properties sold through the DLBA Auction, homes have not been cleaned out or secured by the Detroit Land Bank Authority.
  • Homes are sold “as is" and Title to the property is not guaranteed to be clear,
  • A title search and quiet title services are offered through the DLBA.
  • Applicants will submit their highest offer for the purchase of an Own It Now property. Sales will be based off the highest submitted offer price.
  • Submitted offers are hidden from DLBA staff during the offer period and cannot be disclosed to other applicants.
  • Purchasers must be a Michigan resident, someone who plans on moving into the house, or an organization doing business in Michigan.
  • If an applicant with the highest offer meets purchasing requirements, their credit card will be charged $1,000. Cards are not charged upon the submission of an offer.
  • Remaining balance for the property is due at closing. Unless quiet title action is pending, closing will occur within 30 days of purchasing the property.
  • Applicants do not meet purchasing requirements if they or the business they are purchasing under:
    • Owe delinquent taxes.​ Click here to pay or check due taxes.

    • Have any state or IRS lien filed against them
    • Are currently involved in a Bankruptcy Proceeding
    • Have lost property to back taxes in Wayne County in the last three years
  • An Own It Now specialist will review an applicant’s eligibility and reach out within 7 business days.
  • If eligible, purchasers will receive a purchase agreement to submit to the DLBA and our closing team will contact the purchaser to go over pre-closing procedures and deadlines. 
  • Within 14 days after closing, purchasers must schedule a $295 Pre-Sale Inspection of the property with the City of Detroit’s Building, Safety, Engineering, and Environmental Department (BSEED). Purchasers will have to rehab the home within 6 months (9 months for historic districts).
